Washington, DC (Vocus) February 3, 2010 — Prompted by a new book release, the State Department’s Bureau of Intelligence and Research has received a confidential inquiry from the office of Erard Corbin de Mangoux, head of the French intelligence agency, Directorate General for External Security (DGSE), concerning a recent account of American government complicity in a mysterious 1951 incident of mass insanity in France. The DGSE is the French counterpart of the CIA.

The incident took place in the village of Pont-Saint-Esprit in southern France, and is described in a recent book about the 1953 death of an American biochemist, A Terrible Mistake: The Murder of Frank Olson and the CIA’s Secret Cold War Experiments (http://aterriblemistake.com/). The book, by investigative journalist H.P. Albarelli Jr. (http://www.albarelli.net/), was published in late November 2009 by TrineDay (http://trineday.com/), which specializes in books about “suppressed information.”

The strange outbreak severely affected nearly five hundred people, causing the deaths of at least five. For nearly 60 years the Pont-St.-Esprit incident has been attributed either to ergot poisoning, meaning that villagers consumed bread infected with a psychedelic mold, or to organic mercury poisoning. But Albarelli reports that the outbreak resulted from a covert LSD aerosol experiment directed by the US Army’s top-secret Special Operations Division at Fort Detrick, Maryland. He notes that the scientists who produced both alternative explanations worked for the Sandoz Pharmaceutical Company, which was then secretly supplying both the Army and CIA with LSD.

 

The effect was devastating, as a contemporary French report made clear: “It is neither Shakespeare nor Edgar Poe. It is, alas, the sad reality all around Pont-St.-Esprit and its environs, where terrifying scenes of hallucinations are taking place. They are scenes straight out of the Middle Ages, scenes of horror and pathos, full of sinister shadows.” Even Time magazine took notice: “Among the stricken, delirium rose: patients thrashed wildly on their beds, screaming that red flowers were blossoming from their bodies, that their heads had turned to molten lead. Pont-Saint-Esprit’s hospital reported four attempts at suicide.”

A Department of Justice website on the dangers of LSD states that in the early 1950s “the Sandoz Chemical Company went as far as promoting LSD as a potential secret chemical warfare weapon to the U.S. Government. Their main selling point in this was that a small amount in a main water supply or sprayed in the air could disorient and turn psychotic an entire company of soldiers leaving them harmless and unable to fight.” The CIA entertained a number of proposals from American scientists concerning placing a large amount of LSD into the reservoir of a medium-to-large city, but, according to former agency officials, “the experiment was never approved due to the unexpected number of deaths during the operation in France.”

 

If this article isn't an eye opener, I do not know what is. Sandoz Pharmaceutical is now owned by Novartis. We tend to think of our Gov. shacking up with big pharma as a fairly recent gig, but it's been going on for over 50 years.

 

Also, the fact that a number of American scientists entertained the idea of placing a large amount of LSD into the reservoir of a medium to large American city should give us all pause. The fact that the experiment was even considered is disturbing. Is there any doubt our government could give a rats ass about us?

 

As a side note, I can imagine the conversation between the Army and Then President Truman...............

 

Army General: "Mr. President, we have a new chemical that may have potential as a weapon. It's called LSD and we want to test it on a small American town, perhaps a small town mostly populated by Negros."

 

President Truman: "Are you guys out of your minds!?! No way in hell are we going to chem bomb a small town full of Negros, if word of that ever got out we could lose their vote for generations. Now, if you can find a small town of Republicans.................no wait, I have a better idea, just go ahead and test that LSD stuff on a bunch of "cheese eatin' surrender monkeys", the French.

 

Army General: "Great idea Mr. President, instead of a small French town, can we try it on Paris?"

 

As a side rant, I must say I tire of our Government constantly berating other countries for their record on human rights violations while we ignore our own.

 

Lets see, we initiated biowarfare on the Native American population by giving them smallpox infected blankets, then there was that Trail of Tears thing. In WWII we rounded up Japanese Americans and put them into concentration camps. We routinely overthrow governments so we can install "our" guys, who are usually ruthless dictators.

 

Hmmmmmm, then we have torture, the mass bombing of civilians during wartime (we needed to nuke Japan though, no doubt about that one) blah, blah, blah.........

Nude Pictures of Obama's mother Stanley Ann Dunham have been found on the internet and were likely taken by a Communist Black Man named Frank Marshall Davis living in Hawaii, who was an admitted swinger. This man is also likely Ann's babydaddy.

The pictures were taken before Barack was born, it indicates that Ann had an obsession for black men. Davis and Barack look uncannily alike. Davis is actually the father of Barack and Obama Sr. merely stepped up to the plate and married Ann to get Davis out of trouble, and a statutory rape charge. Davis was married to a white woman at the time. Davis bragged in his autobiography that he had had a threesome with a teenaged white chick, who may have been Ann. This is thought by many to likely be the case. Davis had many Chicago connections and may have paved the way for Barack, when he moved there.

The nude photos of Ann Dunham in an older man's apartment have convinced me that Frank was Barry Dunham's father. I had imagined her as a naive, easily-impressed and somewhat rebellious girl, who hooked up with Barack the Kenyan and got in over her head. But now, I think that's wrong. I think she was pimped out to Frank by her commie father and when it became known she was carrying a black child, she grabbed onto the Kenyan exchange student, told him he was the father, and got him to marry her.

BHO, Sr. got a green card and a chance to get citizenship if he wanted it. He also got to stay in the USA as long as wanted to. BHO Sr. must have copped on to the truth, and split. BHO Jr. would have to be a very extraordinary individual to transcend such a truly perverse family background. That's possible, but unlikely. What's more likely is that he's a malignant narcissist who has (subconsciously) identified America as she is as identical to the forces that deprived him of a normal family and parental love. This must make him very angry. This bodes ill for Americans.

Barack was later sent to live with his white grandparents in Honolulu, Hawaii. Barack describes how Frank Davis had a lasting effect on him and became a father figure over the seven years they knew one another on the tropical island.In ‘Dreams from My Father’, Obama wrote: “He would read us poetry whenever we stopped by his house, sharing whiskey with Gramps out of an emptied jelly jar. As the night wore on, the two of them would solicit my help in composing dirty limericks.” Obama described being counseled by Frank often and recalled drinking whiskey with him. Since Frank Davis has been identified as the author of the book, ‘Sex Rebel: Black‘, Obama has been extremely secretive about the true nature of his experience with the self-admitted deviant. What a scene, Davis molested Ann, and here Ann’s father is breaking bread with him and composing dirty limericks with the dirty negro. Mr. Dunham could not be accused of being overly wise.

Frank Marshal Davis was Obama's real father, and guess what, this was the one and only taste of 'free enterprise', dealing drugs, that Obama has ever had. And this clown is running the economy of the planet, yet his only former experience in business is selling drugs from a hot dog stand with his commie father. "Do you want fries with your dime bag?" In a normal world this would be called insane.

Obama's unholy conception: Frank Marshall Davis's autobiography boasts of sex with a minor, in fact, the 17 year old was Obama's mother, Stanely Ann Dunham. Obama was concieved in a threeway with Davis, his wife and Obama's mother, on election night, John Kennedy's election. Ironic, Obama was concieved as an unholy celebration over JFK's election, and JFK's brother Teddy practically created the Obama presidency by his support.

Barack Obama’s father: Frank Marshall Davis, Bio Snapshot: FMD was a life long communist. FMD was born on December 31, 1905 in Arkansas City, Cowley County, Kansas; July 26, 1987, Honolulu, Hawaii. Obama’s father, Frank Marshal Davis’s parents divorced when he was one year old. In 1911, when he was five, a group of white third-graders tried to lynch Obama’s daddy Frank M. Davis and nearly hanged him. FMD became a Communist tract peddler, writer for communist papers, poet of doggerel, and communist and labor movement activist.

In 1950 Davis was investigated by the House Un-American Activities Committee for his involvement in the American Communist Party. JFK’s brother Robert Kennedy was a staff lawyer for Senator Joseph McCarthy's HUAAC subcommittee, the same committee that investigated Obama’s daddy. 57 years later, JFK and RFK’s brother Teddy endorsed FMD’s scion Obama and thus ensured his nomination. Talk about irony. Likely it was this investigation before the House that earned such a reverence from Mr. Dunham, Obama's grandfather.

In 1924, FMD left Cowley County, Kansas to go to College in Manhattan, Kansas, until 1929 (he did not graduate) whereupon he left the state for Chicago. In 1948, Davis moved to Honolulu, Hawaii.

There, Obamadaddy Frank Davis operated a small wholesale paper business, Oahu Papers, which mysteriously burned to the ground in March 1951. The suggestion is that it was an insurance fraud, which FMD was evidently not above. In 1959, FMD started another similar firm, the Paradise Paper Company. In 1946, Davis married Helen Canfield, a white Chicago socialite, who was 19 years his junior. The couple divorced in 1970, and Canfield-Davis herself died in May 1998 in Honolulu. The couple had four daughters named Lynn, Beth, Jeanne and Jill and a son named Mark, all half siblings to Obama.

It is thought that it is this Helen who shared the forbidden sex liaison with FMD and Obama’s mother in 1960 on election night, to produce the un-immaculate conception in this unholy threesome (Frank, Helen and Stanley Ann). This would be about right, as it would have been while this couple was still childless.

Inflation will be at least double digits.

Socialism" doesn't actually fit the description as much as "fascism", so I can see where fascism will become the next default code-speak for racism.1. First, they denied that government redistribution of people's hard earned money is socialism. 2. Then, they denied that registering millions of phony registrations is really vote fraud. 3. What does the Socialist Quasi-Marxist Triumvirate Junta of Obama-Pelosi-Reid- offer? Specifically, what is happening and will continue to happen is:

1. -- New Democrat Voters -- Swift amnesty for 12 million to 20 million illegal aliens and a drive to make them citizens and register them, as in the Bill Clinton years. This will mean that Nevada, Colorado, New Mexico and Arizona will soon move out of reach for GOP presidential candidates, as has California. Border security will go on the backburner, and America will have a virtual open border with a Mexico of 110 million.

2. -- Redistribution of Wealth -- Taxes will be raised on the top 5 percent of wage-earners, who now carry 60 percent of the U.S. income tax burden, and tens of millions of checks will be sent out to the 40 percent of wage-earners who pay no federal income tax. Like the man said, redistribute the wealth, spread it around.

3. -- Taxes raised, Social Welfare State -- Social Security taxes will be raised on the most successful among us, and capital gains taxes will be raised from 15 percent to 20 percent. The Bush tax cuts will be repealed, and death taxes reimposed.

4. -- Far Left Wing Judges -- Two or three more liberal activists of the Ruth Bader Ginsberg-John Paul Stevens stripe will be named to the Supreme Court. U.S. district and appellate courts will be stacked with "progressives."

12. -- Collapse of the Army -- Obama will deliberately cause the fall of the Army by overextending it, so that he can replace it with a minority led and backed one, so that he can destroy the Constitution and Civil Rights and extend his Bolshevik regime.

Obama will rule as a black style Marxist government, much like those found in Africa. We would learn by examining just how those governments are run. Let's see if we can list a few of these hallmarks of black government where they are elsewhere:

1) First and foremost, take whatever functioning infrastructure that Whites established and then trash it out in record time.

2) Intimidate, jail, torture and kill any political opposition.

3) Skim the lion's share of any foreign aid and resource profit transfers off the top for the head leader and his cronies leaving little or nothing for societal maintenance or expansion.

4) Maintain a bunch of thugs posing as legitimate military and police to instill terror in the populace.

5) Use every opportunity to weaken, starve, disenfranchise and humiliate any other tribe that MAY one day become politically competitive

6) Do little or nothing to actually help the people pull themselves up out of the dust and despair.

7) Be willing to see the whole country, (if we wish to exaggerate its actual standing), go down in bloody ruin in order to stay in power another year.

Hillary Clinton....pants first, Haitians second.

Delaying aid for a photo-op

Jesse Hagopian, a teacher from Seattle, was in Haiti with his wife (who works on HIV education in the country) and one-year-old son when the earthquake hit. Here, he looks at the U.S. government's priorities on display in Haiti right now.

 

EVERYTHING YOU need to know about the U.S. aid effort to assist Haiti in the wake of the catastrophic earthquake can be summed up by Secretary of State Hillary Clinton's touchdown in Port-au-Prince on Saturday, January 16: they shut down the airport for three hours surrounding her arrival for "security" reasons, which meant that no aid flights could come in during those critical hours.

 

If there was one day when the Haitian people needed aid to flow all day long, that was the day, because the people trapped under the rubble on Tuesday evening couldn't survive much beyond Saturday without water.

 

Defenders of Clinton will say that her disimpassioned, monotone, photo-op speech was needed to draw attention to the plight of the Haitians. But no one north of hell can defend her next move: according to airport personnel that I spoke to during my recent evacuation from Haiti, she paralyzed the airport later that same day to have a new outfit flown in from the Dominican Republic.

 

I am having a hard time readjusting to life back home after having survived the earthquake and witnessed so much death, so even typing those words is making my heart pound uncontrollably. I guess for America's rulers, a new pantsuit is more valuable than the lives of poor, Black Haitians.

 

Unfortunately, Clinton's model of diverting and delaying critical aid to the Haitian people, while emphasizing security, has become standard operating procedure.

 

Alain Joyandet, the French minister responsible for humanitarian relief in Haiti, charged the U.S. with treating this as a military operation rather than an aid mission. Mr. Joyandet told the Daily Telegraph that he had been involved in an argument with a U.S. commander in the airport's control tower over the flight plan for a French evacuation flight, saying, "This is about helping Haiti, not about occupying Haiti."

 

But with the U.S. occupying Iraq and Afghanistan, and funding the Israeli occupation of Palestine, it seems our government knows how to do little else when it comes to international affairs.

 

The day I left via Toussaint L'Ouverture International Airport, I saw lots of crates of food, water and medical supplies piled on the tarmac. But I didn't see that aid being transported out of the airport to actually get to Haitians.

 

Undoubtedly, there has been some aid distributed, but because there was no serious effort to disperse that aid in the first four days after the quake, tens of thousands of people trapped under rubble have died needlessly because they couldn't get a sip of water.

 

The Geneva-based organization Doctors Without Borders has been turned away from the airport numerous times to allow U.S. troops to land. A ring of U.S. warships surrounds Haiti to make sure that Haitians don't escape the disaster and try to get to the United States.

 

The U.S. has taken control of Haiti's main airport and seaport, and is in the process of deploying 18,000 U.S. troops to bolster the 9,000 UN troops already occupying the island nation--and as an eyewitness, I can tell you those troops are guarding their own compounds rather than distributing aid.

 

The Obama administration will try to dress up their ambition to occupy and pillage Haiti in a humanitarian evening gown. But clothing is in short supply in Haiti, and we can't afford to waste it.

 

As a man from Leogane, Haiti, told Democracy Now!, "Myself, if you look at me, I don't have shoes, and I don't have food. Even my shoes, if you look at them, you see. I need clothes. We need everything. Even medicines, we need."

There has been some talk of the U.S. Military becomming an occupying force in Haiti. I thought, at first, that this was just some idiotic speculation, but we have this tidbit from the January 28, 2008 edition of MetropoleHaiti.com:  "Scientists Daniel and Ginette Mathurin indicate that under Haitian soil is rich in oil and fuel fossile which were collected by Haitian and foreign experts. "We have identified 20 sites Oil, launches Daniel Mathurin stating that 5 of them are considered very important by practitioners and policies. 

The Central Plateau, including the region of Thomond, the plain of the cul-de-sac and the bay of Port-au-Prince are filled with oil, he said, adding that Haiti's oil reserves are larger than those of Venezuela . An Olympic pool compared to a glass of water that is the comparison to show the importance of oil Haitian compared to those of Venezuela, "he explains."

The eyes of the world are on Haiti but at the epicentre of the earthquake that shattered her country, Anite Bertrand wonders why they cannot seem to see her.

Nearly two weeks after the devastation was unleashed, she has received no aid, her home is an open patch of grass under a tree, and her only food the leaves that fall from branches overhead.

"We have nothing so we pick up the leaves, boil them in water from the river and eat them," she says. "No-one has come to help us and we cannot live like this. It is not possible to live on leaves."

Yesterday the government of Haiti announced through the United Nations that the search and rescue phase of the relief effort was being formally scaled down, in order to concentrate on bringing food, water and medical help to the earthquake's survivors.

For those around Leogane, the dirt poor coastal farming town where the most powerful tremors were felt, such help is desperately needed. It is just 20 miles from the capital, Port au Prince. Yet like so many other corners of the earthquake zone - none of them far-flung - it has received only minimal assistance so far.

Mrs Bertrand's seven-year-old son Milky sat quietly nearby, his eyes wide with hunger, and an enormous right-angled gash on the top of his head, as she recalled the horrors of the previous 11 days.

Her son was inside their house playing when the 7.0-magnitude earthquake struck on Jan 12 and a breeze block fell on his head.

"I rushed back and found him and his eyes were closed," she said. "I thought he was dead. I could see his skull. I took him to the hospital but it had collapsed. There was no medicine, nowhere to go and he was in so much pain. He cried all the time."

For a week the boy suffered with his gaping head wound before a makeshift clinic opened nearby and it could be stitched up.

Leogane itself looks as if it has been carpet bombed, with between 80 and 90 per cent of its buildings destroyed. In a town of 120,000 people, the best estimate is that 30,000 have died. No-one knows for sure, as so many bodies remain under the rubble. About 500 of those are at the St Rose de Lima school, which was filled with children, priests and nuns.

The infrastructure of everyday life is gone. Banks, the police headquarters and municipal officers were all wiped out. Outside the city the lush hills where bananas grow have ruptured, sending boulders crashing down into villages.

On the road that leads 20 miles west to Leogane from the capital Port-au-Prince, deep fissures have opened up. Approaching the city a scrawled sign reads "We need help" and the countryside is dotted with makeshift tents. On the outskirts homes and shops lie in various states of collapse with concrete slab roofs concertinaed everywhere.

In Leogane everybody now sleeps under the stars and the sidestreets are lined with small, triangular shelters built from wooden-frames and corrugated iron sheets.

Inside, on mattresses scavenged from the wreckage, lie survivors with broken limbs and bloody makeshift bandages. Most of them are doing nothing, simply waiting. Others have fled to set up ramshackle settlements in the surrounding sugar cane fields and mangrove swamps.

In the centre of town more than 100 people stood praying on a grass square. An unpaved road leads from the square to the shattered shell of the city's main landmark, the 500-year-old St Rose of Lima church, the oldest in Haiti. It crumbled during a service and bodies remain below.

The façade is now a 30ft high moutainn of rubble with its giant bell sitting precariously on top. Inside, the marble altar survived without a scratch.

In the nearby Rue de l'Hopital, Rosanna Compere, 50, looked dazed as she stared at a pile of rocks that used to be her home. Four of her six children - Marise, 20, Mariemath, 15, Juerdy, 11, and Theodora, 10 – perished when it collapsed.

Tears welled in her eyes as she looked at half a dozen pairs of Mariemath's dancing shoes strewn in the wreckage.

"Mariemath was the most beautiful girl. She had dreams, big dreams. My daughter was a dancer and she loved to put on a show," she said. "She wanted to do it professionally. If that did not happen then she wanted to be a journalist on the radio. I cannot believe she is gone.

"My daughter Marise was going to be a nurse and wanted to go to work in the United States. She was going to take me there." Mention of Theodora lifts her sombre mood. She remembers how her daughter loved the Cha-cha-cha, played the saxophone and dreamed of traveling the world. Her son, Juerdy loved football. "He played in midfield and wanted to be a big star player," she said. "I loved them all so much. I miss them with all my heart. They are still part of me." There is nothing to remember the children by, not even a photograph.

Her eldest son Wisley, 29, who survived, said: "I was outside when this catastrophe happened and I came running back. I saw my house flattened. I saw my sisters dead, my brother dead. I picked them up and carried them out into the street. I was weeping. I cry even now thinking about it."

He pointed at a soft toy amidst the shards of wreckage "That was Juerdy's," he said. "And this exercise book was Mariemath's. That was what she wrote all her school things in." He shook his head as he looks at the mangled wreckage of his own bed.

The bodies of the children lay in the street for a week along with the rest of Leogane's dead before trucks came to take them to anonymous mass graves in the hills of Titanyen, north of Port-au-Prince. They were bulldozed into trenches along with thousands of others.

"We don't know where they are," said Mr Compere. "We will never know. The truck came and took them and it was so hard to let them go but we had to. We survived but we have nothing now, we sleep in the street. We need help but it doesn't come." Holding up a mini-carton of orange juice, he said: "This is all we have had so far."

Many in Leogane feel they have been forgotten by the international aid effort so there was an explosion of excitement on Friday when, a full 10 days after their city disintegrated, an articulated lorry pulled in to deliver 2,500 food packs from Germany.

Because of fears of a riot the truck was accompanied by a contingent of soldiers from Germany and Canada, and US Marines. They guarded the truck, forming a line in front of the church as thousands of people pressed forward.

There was a brief period of mayhem as the key to open the container was lost for 15 minutes. After the food was distributed many people remained empty-handed.

Monique Dasir, 23, one of the lucky ones, clutched her food pack which contained eight meals. "I was so hungry," she said. "There has been a lot of misery here. It is impossible to find food." Volker Pellet, the Geman chargé d'affaires, said: "People are desperate. There is an extreme need here so we have moved forward into the affected area."

Despite the UN having identified Leogane as the place worst affected by the earthquake the first week after the catastrophe saw only one truck full of water arrive. In a field outside the city US military helicopters have now begun delivering food packs, which were guarded by Marines as ravenously hungry people looked on.

"I wish we could hand them straight out but we have to wait for the UN to come and distribute them," said one Marine.

In addition to having no food many people in Leogane still have broken, twisted limbs and festering sores which have yet to be treated. Médecins Sans Frontières has established clinics in the area but many of the injured do not know where they are. Volunteers are being sent out with megaphones to advertise their presence.

At one clinic 12 amputations had been performed and 45 more people were waiting to undergo surgery.

"If we are not there in the first day people die. That's a life saving time," said Dr Bichet Mathieu of MSF. "The consequences in medical terms are big."

Yet many Haitians spoken to by The Sunday Telegraph spoke to, even those who had suffered with painful injuries for more than a week, expressed no anger at the tardy arrival of food and medical aid.

Their stoicism was partly based on the fatalism of voodoo, which prescribes that God decides when a person dies.

"The Haitian people do not get afraid of death. We are sure that we come back again," said Max Beauvoir, the supreme servitor and highest priest of voodoo in Haiti. "We believe that everyone lives 16 times - eight times we live as men, and eight times as women - and the purpose of life is to gather all kinds of experiences."

He said many people felt God had sent the earthquake. "They see it as an act of God, meaning God would decide to hurt Haitian people, which of course is wrong," he said. "They're not only wounded in their body alone. They are wounded in their spirits and in their mind."

As the rescue workers began pulling out of Port-au-Prince two people were miraculously pulled from the wreckage of their homes. Emmannuel Buso, 21, a tailor, survived by drinking his own urine after furniture that fell around him created a space. He was so ghostly pale that his mother thought he was a corpse but doctors said he is expected to make a full recovery.

"I am here today because God wants it," he said from his hospital bed.

Marie Carida Romain, 84, was also rescued from another building. She was being treated in hospital for severe dehydration.

Yesterday the country's interior ministry said that more than 110,000 (Now 150,000) people had been confirmed dead, with over 190,000 injured. Nobody doubts that the true total will prove to be far higher, if ever it can even be counted. North of the capital, in the wasteland of Titanyen, where the children of Rosanna Compere were buried in a mass grave, workers are no longer bothering to dig holes. Instead, they leave corpses to rot in the sun and be eaten by animals.

Adults, children and babies have been dumped in undignified heaps and left to fester. "We don't want to go there," said Wisly Compere. "We would rather remember them as they were."

 

 

Forgotten History: USS Vesuvius

USS Vesuvius

The Vesuvius "was a unique vessel in the Navy inventory which marked a departure from more conventional forms of main battery armament—was laid down in September 1887 at Philadelphia, Pa., by William Cramp and Sons Ships and Engine Building Co., subcontracted from the Pneumatic Dynamite Gun Co. of New York, N.Y.; launched on 28 April 1888; sponsored by Miss Eleanor Breckinridge; and commissioned on 2 June 1890 at the Philadelphia Navy Yard, Lt. Seaton Schroeder in command.

Vesuvius carried three 15-inch pneumatic guns, mounted forward side-by-side. In order to train these weapons, the ship had to be aimed, like a gun, at its target. Compressed air projected the shells from the "dynamite guns." The explosive used in the shells themselves was actually a "desensitized blasting gelatin" composed of nitrocellulose and nitroglycerine. It was less sensitive to shock than regular dynamite but still sensitive enough that compressed air, rather than powder, had to be utilized as the propellant. Ten shells per gun were carried on board, and the range of flight —varying from 200 yards to one and one-half miles— depended on the amount of air entering the firing chamber.

Vesuvius sailed for New York shortly after commissioning and then joined the Fleet at Gardiner's Bay, N.Y., on 1 October 1890. She operated off the east coast with the North Atlantic Squadron into 1895. Highlights of this tour of duty included numerous port visits and participation in local observances of holidays and festivals, as well as gunnery practice and exercises. Experience showed that the ship's unique main battery had two major drawbacks: first, the range was too short; second, the method of aiming was crude and inaccurate.

Decommissioned on 25 April 1895 for major repairs, Vesuvius re-entered service on 12 January 1897, Lt. Comdr. John E. Pillsbury in command. The ship got underway from the Philadelphia Navy Yard, bound for Florida, and operated off the east coast through the spring of the following year, 1898. By this time, American relations with Spain were worsening. The American Fleet gathered in Florida waters, and Vesuvius hurried south from Newport, R.I., and arrived at Key West on 13 May. She remained there until the 28th, when she headed for blockade duty in Cuban coastal waters. Vesuvius performed special duties at the discretion of the Fleet Commander in Chief and served as a dispatch vessel between Cuba and Florida into July of 1898.

On 13 June, Vesuvius conducted the first of eight shore bombardment missions against Santiago, Cuba. The cruiser stealthily closed the shore under cover of darkness, loosed a few rounds of her 15-inch dynamite charges, and then retired to sea. Psychologically, Vesuvius' bombardment caused great anxiety among the Spanish forces ashore, for her devastating shells came in without warning, unaccompanied by the roar of gunfire usually associated with a bombardment. Admiral Sampson wrote accordingly, that Vesuvius' bombardments had "great effect."

After hostilities with Spain ended later that summer, Vesuvius sailed north and called at Charleston, S.C.; New York, and Newport, before reaching Boston. Taken out of active service on 16 September 1898, Vesuvius remained at the Boston Navy Yard until 1904, when she began conversion to a torpedo-testing vessel. Vesuvius lost her unique main battery and acquired four torpedo tubes—three 18-inch and one 21-inch. Recommissioned on 21 June 1905, Vesuvius soon sailed for the Naval Torpedo Station at Newport to begin her new career.

She conducted torpedo experiments at the station for two years until decommissioned on 27 November 1907 for repairs. Recommissioned again on 14 February 1910, Vesuvius remained at Newport for the next 11 years, on occasion serving as station ship, into 1921. Decommissioned and ordered appraised for sale on 21 October 1921, Vesuvius was sold for scrap on 21 April 1922 to J. Lipsitz and Co., Chelsea, Mass."

I can only wonder that had this technology been advanced instead of abandoned, where we would be today in terms of pneumatic weapons and the ancillary systems that may have been developed.

Give Pat Robertson a break

My father's recollection of Pat was that he was an average guy who did manage to use his senator father's influence to attempt to avoid going to Korea. This incident has been well documented, but Pat did eventually pull a somewhat cushy tour in Korea. (Jack Daniels anyone?)

I can remember the early years of Pat's UHF TV station WYAH. Back in those days we had the three main networks plus a UHF PBS station so getting another channel, whatever the content, was pretty exciting.

As to Pat's comments about Hati, he may be right on the money. The wrath of God is no joke. His comments have their genesis in the Bois Caiman ceremony of August 1791, which began the Hatian slave revolt against the French. (And really, who wouldn't want to get out from the French yoke?) It has been established that this ceremony actually took place and for those of us with a religious persuasion, we know deals can be made with the devil. (Seems idiotic that folks would want to trade a few years of prosperity for an eternity roasting in the fires of hell, which is located at the center of the Earth. Unimaginable pain and suffering forever....no thanks, I'll pass)

One thing I did not realize about Hati was that it had a population of over 9 million, 2 million of which lived in Port-au-Prince. Hati is only about 10,700 square miles or roughly one fourth the size of the state of Virginia. Tragically, there were only about 2 doctors per ten thousand population before the disaster.

Back to Pat. Deride him as you will, but he has managed to build an empire that provides charitable help to thousands of people each year. CBN's Operation Blessing "has provided hunger relief, disaster relief, medical aid and community development to more than 192.8 million people in 96 countries and all 50 states, providing goods and services valued at more than $1.2 billion. Operation Blessing is governed by a national board of directors that includes founder M. G. "Pat" Robertson, his wife, and son Gordon."

The "Flying Hospital", a converted L-1011, that CBN had was sold in 2000 to another non-profit due to the high expense of operating it. Many people were helped by this aircraft's facilities.

METV also distributes free videotapes and religious literature and provides food and clothing -- through CBN’s humanitarian affiliate, Operation Blessing International -- throughout the Middle East. METV was sold to a like-minded ministry, LeSEA Broadcasting, in July 2001.

Here in America, The 700 Club Prayer Counseling Centers in Virginia Beach, Virginia and Nashville, Tennessee provide prayer, scriptural counsel, and literature to people who call CBN's toll free telephone prayer line. The center's phones are staffed 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year by a staff of paid, volunteer, and “on call” workers who are trained in offering comfort and encouragement from a biblical perspective.

In 1977, CBN started the nation's first basic TV cable network with satellite transmissions of religious and syndicated family TV shows. By 1981, CBN Cable reached nearly 10 million homes. Renamed the CBN Family Channel in 1988, the commercial cable operation continued to prosper and was sold in 1990 to International Family Entertainment Inc. (IFE), a publicly held company that trades on the New York Stock Exchange. IFE was sold in 1997 to Fox Kids Worldwide, Inc.. Disney acquired the Fox Family Channel and it was named ABC Family on November 10, 2001."

We all have our issues, but Pat Robertson has done more good than most of us ever will hope to.

 And then we have this interesting article: "The South has become the first region in the country where more than half of public school students are poor and more than half are members of minorities, according to a new report."

 

"The shift was fueled not by white flight from public schools, which spiked during desegregation but has not had much effect on school demographics since the early 1980s. Rather, an influx of Latinos and other ethnic groups, the return of blacks to the South and higher birth rates among black and Latino families have contributed to the change."

 

So, half of the southern states public school students are poor.  That is an extremely troubling statistic in that it speaks volumes about our current economic situation..........and future economic situation. Also, when you throw in the race issue, you have a potential powder keg in the South. One spark and BOOM!!

Failed economy, failed public education, failed politicians. The state of the union is not good. On the environmental front it looks like Chinese Carp are getting ready to invade the Great Lakes and wipe out a 7 billion dollar per year sport and commercial fishing industry. The last line of defense against these fish entering the Great Lakes is the Illinois canal locks barrier. However: Illinois does not want to close the locks.

"To the ire of many in the Great Lakes area, the administration of President Barack Obama has sided with his home state of Illinois. Elena Kagan, his solicitor general, last week told the Supreme Court that the federal government did not believe the "dramatic step" of closing the canal locks was necessary."

"On the campaign trail last year, Mr Obama staked his claim as the Great Lakes president and said he would have a "zero tolerance" policy for new invasive species. Many people in the Great Lakes believe that his administration is now selling them down the river."

 

Our current woes are certainly not the entire fault of Obama, but he is clearly part of the problem, not part of the solution.

 

 

Apollo-Soyuz and Apollo 20!?!

Many may recall the Apollo-Soyuz test project which took place back in July of 1975 and involved a joint docking exercise with one of our Apollo spacecraft and one of the Russian Soyuz craft. The mission was highly successful.

One thing I remember thinking at the time though was there sure was a lot of training and crew prep for what was basically a brief docking mission. It would have been a fairly simple matter to adapt the Apollo and Soyuz ship's hatches with a connection module. The answer for the super intensive training is now out of the bag thanks to some video and commentary which has been posted on the internet.

Apollo 17 was the last moon landing and the Apollo-Soyuz mission was done with Apollo 18, but there were two other missions to the moon flown by a combined U.S and Russian crew to study the remains of a crashed alien spacecraft that was discovered by one of the lunar flyover satellites.

The discovery of the photo of the crashed ship caused quite a stir for a brief time in the 70's, but NASA debunking efforts were successful until decades later when the videos surfaced of the Apollo 20 mission.

The first video is a montage of the original NASA pics of the crashed ship along with 16mm frames of the craft as it appeared in the Apollo 20 flyover. Apollo 19 was aborted when some debris struck the ship and it had to return to earth.

The Apollo 20 crew consisted of Astronaut William Rutledge, who provided the Apollo 20 videos, a female Astronaut named Leona Marietta Snyder--from Bell labs and Soviet cosmonaut Alexei Leonov, who is visible in the second video. Apollo 20 lift off was on August 16, 1976 from Vandenberg AFB.

When I first saw the Apollo 20 video with the alien female in the LEM, I thought it was fake until I realized it was an actual LEM. Also the videographer points the camera out a window to reveal that the ship IS in fact on the moon. Additionally, you can see a Soviet Lunokhod probe and when the camera pans the LEM interior you get a clear shot of Leonov.

Thus you have positive proof of an American spacecraft on the moon, beside a Soviet remote controlled probe, with a Soviet astronaut in an American spacecraft. So, the logical conclusion at this point is that the alien female in the LEM is real. The alien ship was determined to have been on the moon for many years due to an analysis of the crater impacts on the ship. You will note that the female alien has oriental features. This could explain a lot in terms of the development of the three races on earth. One may recall that at the conclusion of the human genome mapping project some anamolous DNA was discovered. I think it's possible there may have been survivors from the crash who made it to earth and assimilated with the human population already present on the planet at the time.

"Dead Hand" System Still Operational

On December 8th, 1991 the Belovezh Agreement was signed, thus dissolving the Soviet union and establishing a Commonwealth of Independent States.

Known to only a few Americans at the time was the fact that the Soviet Union had developed what was, essentially, a doomsday machine which became operational in 1985. The system was developed in response to the Russian perception that Ronald Reagan would initiate a massive pre-emptive strike on the Soviet Union.

Details of the system, known by the Soviets as "Perimeter" and by the West as the "Dead Hand" system, are as follows:

"Perimeter ensures the ability to strike back, but it's no hair-trigger device. It was designed to lie semi-dormant until switched on by a high official in a crisis. Then it would begin monitoring a network of seismic, radiation, and air pressure sensors for signs of nuclear explosions. Before launching any retaliatory strike, the system had to check off four if/then propositions: If it was turned on, then it would try to determine that a nuclear weapon had hit Soviet soil. If it seemed that one had, the system would check to see if any communication links to the war room of the Soviet General Staff remained. If they did, and if some amount of time—likely ranging from 15 minutes to an hour—passed without further indications of attack, the machine would assume officials were still living who could order the counterattack and shut down. But if the line to the General Staff went dead, then Perimeter would infer that apocalypse had arrived. It would immediately transfer launch authority to whoever was manning the system at that moment deep inside a protected bunker—bypassing layers and layers of normal command authority. At that point, the ability to destroy the world would fall to whoever was on duty: maybe a high minister sent in during the crisis, maybe a 25-year-old junior officer fresh out of military academy. And if that person decided to press the button ... If/then. If/then. If/then. If/then.

Once initiated, the counterattack would be controlled by so-called command missiles. Hidden in hardened silos designed to withstand the massive blast and electromagnetic pulses of a nuclear explosion, these missiles would launch first and then radio down coded orders to whatever Soviet weapons had survived the first strike. At that point, the machines will have taken over the war. Soaring over the smoldering, radioactive ruins of the motherland, and with all ground communications destroyed, the command missiles would lead the destruction of the US."

The problem is that this system is STILL OPERATIONAL. The other issue is that while the Russians have been saying that they have detargeted their missiles, the fact that Perimeter is still operational means that the missiles must have targeting data since it will not be possible to add the data once the system is activated. Thus if China launches a massive surprise nuclear strike on Russia and their missiles are targeted at the U.S., then Perimeter will launch the missiles at the U.S.

Now that we know Perimeter is still active, it places our relationship with the Russians in a bit of a different light than was previously the case. It also gives Putin a huge ace in the hole. (Don Rich has done some excellent research on Putin and Russia, his earlier posts are worth checking out)

The Russians know they can pretty much do what they want with impunity since we would not risk complete destruction by ever launching a first strike at Russia------certainly Obama would never consider this as an option.

The Beast of Kandahar..........the RQ-170

The United States Air Force has confirmed the existence of the RQ-170 Sentinel Unmanned Aerial Vehicle. It has been seen in Afghanistan since 2007, but the USAF did not confirm it actually existed until December 4th, 2009. Due to its stealthy nature and menacing appearance, it has been nicknamed the "Beast of Kandahar."

Now, I would rather have Uncle Sugar spending our tax dollars on the homefront, but I suppose it is keeping some defense contractors employed, at least.

Since the Taliban lack radar, some have been speculating as to why this aircraft would be deployed to Afghanistan. A relatively good possibility could be that the Beast is being used to keep tabs on the Pakistani weapons research facility at Kahuta. It is also well known that the Chinese have been helping Pakistan with their nuclear and conventional weapons programs.

The stubby, but sturdy, landing gear could indicate that it can be launched and recovered by an aircraft carrier. It could be used to gather electronic radar and weapons signatures from Iran in preparation for a strike on that country as well.

It should also be a very quiet aircraft and able to get close to an enemy. It does not carry any weapons, but has extensive sensor arrays. This neat piece of tech was developed at the famous Lockheed "Skunk Works" facility and the 30th Reconnaissance Squadron, based in Tonopah, operates the RQ-170.

As an aside, the Predator UAV is manufactured by General Atomics subsidiary General Atomics Aeronautical Systems. General Atomics does some interesting things:

GA’s Energy Operating Group (Energy Group) plays an important role in nuclear research and development, and is well-regarded for contributions in nuclear power, magnetic fusion, and inertial fusion applications. The Energy Group converts fundamental theoretical research into authentic solutions, producing advanced technologies for use today.

GA’s Electromagnetic Systems (EMS) Division focuses on the military and commercial applications of advanced electromagnetic technologies, including power generation and distribution, magnetic levitation, and systems design and engineering. The EMS Division supports government customers, which include the Department of Defense, Department of Energy and the Department of Transportation. (My note: Notice the reference to magnetic levitation.)

General Atomics may be developing some type of advanced electro magnetic or atomic engine technology which could give a UAV essentially unlimited range and an ability to stay aloft for weeks a time.

Obama throws Secret Service under the bus. (Update)

The below photo (via Polo Contacts Worldwide) was taken at a Rock The Vote event on June 9, 2005. With the Salahi's are Barack Obama and Randy Jackson, among others.

When I first heard about the Obama party crashers Tareq and Michaele Salahi, my initial thought was that some Secret Service agents are going to be unemployed soon. My other thought was that this could be some type of deliberate lax security. That some folks high up may want something bad to happen to Obama so the SS is ordered to be less diligent.

It turns out that it is actually business as usual with Obama. He is actually friends with Tareq and Michaele Salahi, but since it has been discovered that Tareq is a board member of the American Task Force on Palestine. (Well he was until Nov. 25, 2009) This group has ties to Hamas and to certain Saudi Wahabist sects.

According to the americalovesobama.com website, the Salahis had communicated with a senior Pentagon official about going to the event, but the official now denies she helped the couple.(Yeah, right)

So the real story is that Obama has ties to yet another scumbag and he (Obama) did not want the scrutiny, so, he tossed the Secret Service under the bus. The Salahis were invited to the event, but were deliberately left off the official guest list. (I'm sure it was to avoid scrutiny of the couple, but that backfired and the cat is now out of the bag)

Update: MSNBC has an article where Pentagon official Michele Jones denies getting the Salahis an invitation, but later in the article it states: "That night the Salahis showed up at the White House, where they said they stood in line at multiple security checkpoints. They said they showed their passports to three Secret Service agents, who compared the Salahis’ IDs against their own paperwork. After the security checks, the Salahis were allowed to enter the party and mingle and have photo ops with the president and vice president." This sounds like what actually transpired. Again, Obama is just trying to cover his tracks.
